Summertime Feel-Good Hits!

Alright, so we are in the middle of some sort of heat wave. It's about 90 degrees over here, which is not too bad at all considering how hot it gets everywhere else, but if you are not used to it, its downright oppressive.

Given this, it appears that on the 3rd day God did not create air-conditioning here in Seattle, so we are forced to sweat it on out. At first I was pissed, but then I realized that this is actual quite refreshing.

So, as I was driving down to the beach today to take my lunch-break dip in Lake Washington, I figured I needed to come up with a list of summertime albums to blast out the windows of my car while also blasting my AC at full (yes, I know I am an ass).

As of now, this album is The Cool Kids' Gone Fishing, the pre-cursor to their upcoming LP. This album is so damn catchy it's unbelievable. Don Cannon puts his producing skills to the forefront on this album, creating a collection of tracks that don't play through like your typical mixtape.

Album highlights:

"The Art Of Noise (Interlude)"
The dark, sullen and minimal synth line on this track lines up perfectly with the syncopation of the bass line, and puts this relaxed, yet subtly rolling feeling of tranquility. I don't know. It's oddly catchy, but I love it.

"Step Up"
Got to get excited by any mention of Syracuse, NY (my hometown), in any song. So when I was casually listening to this track for the first time, I started hearing "orangemen" "Carmello Anthony" and "first round draft pick", I caused a scene nearly jumping out of my chair. Good Track.

"Pennies"
Depsite some growing popularity and appearances on commercials, Cool Kids remain largely an Internet phenomenon. So when the beat cuts out halfway though the track and Luda pipes in, followed by Bun-B, you get a sense that this next LP from the Chicago/Detroit duo will make these guys.
